safety net on standby
ella® is a prescription-only emergency contraceptive pill containing 30 mg of ulipristal acetate. Since 2009, ella has been trusted by over 55 million women worldwide.3 ella is the only emergency contraceptive that can delay ovulation late in the follicular stage of the menstrual cycle - even when ovulation is imminent.1

Mechanism of action
Ulipristal acetate, the active ingredient in ella, works by postponing follicular rupture for up to 5 days and inhibits or delays ovulation, helping to prevent fertilization after unprotected sex.5
Efficacy
Like any oral emergency contraceptive, ella is most effective when taken as soon possible after unprotected sex. In clinical trials, there was a pregnancy rate of less than 1% when ella was taken within 24 hours after having unprotected sex. In those same studies, there was a pregnancy rate of 1.3% when ella was taken within 5 days after having unprotected sex.2
